Why do you look for the living One
Among the dead?
Do you lift your eyes to the stone cold stars
Counting them like atomic sheep
Fast asleep
Till they fall like rain
Do you?
When that first atom broke in two
And light poured out of molecular cracks
Splitting hydrogen from helium
From only one there came each of em
When the atom broke did it break just for you?
Or was it you that broke instead?
Looking for the living One
Among the dead?
Or do you look to this good green earth
Do you sit in silence on the lowest mountain
When you’re deep in the valley of your darkest hour
Will the rock and the flower
Will they cry out for you?
Will they answer you in your time of need?
Or is it you that’s crying out instead?
Looking for the living One
Among the dead?
Or do you turn to the people
Beneath the steeple
Or the magical stranger
Beside the manger
In the barn where you were born?
Do any of them truly know you?
Can they tell you who you are?
Or is it only you that cannot tell
The stairway to heaven from the road to hell?
As you walk alone instead
Looking for the living One
Among the dead?
Or do you hang upon the words in the book
Holding on with holy deathgrip
Hating yourself but loving those pages
Penned by the scribes, the scoundrels
And the sages?
Telling of the rock of ages
That stone that was thrown
When the curtain was torn
When the word itself took on bodily form
And that body now is you and I and I and you
The ones just like you and ALL the others too
…
Or is it you that’s become just another word
Another page with another label
That you gave yourself instead
While looking for the living One
Among the dead?
No
No more empty tombs
No more empty tombs
Of stars and earth
Of people and words
What you need is not what they’re giving
Today is the day
To look for the living
Right where you stand
A new life in your life
A whole new plan
No longer alone
No longer ashamed
In you
With you
Don’t be afraid
You are the place
Where life and truth meet
And death is erased
Resurrected
It’s over and done
Look within and go with the One
Who gives the stars to the distant night
Who gives the earth to raise up a flower
Who gives all people love and light
Who speaks the word and lives its power
Because when you know the One
Who sets your heart free
You’ll see Him everywhere
In every place you could ever be
And in everyone who’s ever been broken
And every word that’s ever been spoken
Your life is the temple
It’s no longer a prison
His life in your life
The living One, the living One…
He is risen
